Hi

I have suffered from Deep Vein Thrombosis & Pulmonary Embolys and have been on Warfarin.

As greens are high in Vit K and with my predisposition to bloodclotting, would it be advisable to have green smoothies, if any?

I am not taking any anti-coagulants at the moment.

Looking forward to your answer.

Kind Regards

Can you please explain what you mean by the statement, "people are confused between root vegetables and leafy greens." What are some examples?

Yesli - Your husband needs to do what makes him feel healthy and strong. If this means he needs to eat a small amount of nuts and seeds then that's fine. I know of some men that feel they need nuts and have heard Victoria suggest that walnuts are a good option.

Emily, thanks for that.
Can I ask you how a man who does a lot of jogging etc keep his calorie intake on a green smoothie diet?
My husband has lost a lot of weight on green smoothies but now needs to maintain his weight.
I was thinking of nuts/seeds for extra calories.
If I keep nuts/seeds low because of O6's, how do I still stay raw and give him the calories he needs?
Help!

Hi Yesil, After years of being on a raw diet which contained high levels of nuts, Victoria's research has lead her to believe that too many nuts are not good for optimal health. One reason is large quantities of nuts are bad for digestions and they are high in omega 6's. You can read about this research in the new chapter in Green for Life.

Victoria believes that a green smoothie should be simple so that the nutrients of the greens can be absorbed & digested easily and quickly. We do not need large quantities of sprouts in our diet, it's fine to have a handful on a salad or in a green soup, but there is no need to blend them the way we need to blend and consume greens.

If you use the really dark leafy greens, you will have a high protein content. Sergei explains this here http://greensmoothiesblog.com/green-smoothie-for-athletes/

Hi,
I have been looking at several sites but I could not find any answers on why Victoria does not include bean sprouts or soaked nuts and seeds in smoothies.
Would it not increase the protein content, especially with athletes and people who do a lot of jogging etc?
I would be grateful to hear your views, thanks.
